HR uses Social media to recruit engineers

January 21st, 2010 by Caroline Maddox

Although the recession still has a tight grip on the UK economy, there still remains a skills gap for many organisations. So how can you recruit your hard to fill positions when the talent pool remains dry? Social media may be one avenue that could provide access to skills that traditional recruitment strategies cannot reach.

South Staffs Water

One client that has embraced social media as a tool to help fill some of their senior engineering vacancies is South Staffs Water. Having struggled to recruit for various senior engineering positions over the last 12 months, South Staffs Water approached us as their recruitment communications partner to suggest alternative strategies. Having successfully used social media tools like LinkedIn and Facebook to promote events and build networks for other clients, we were interested to see how these networks could help promote awareness of South Staffs Water’s vacancies and build a profile of them as a great place to work.

It is early days, but we have created a South Staffs Water employer profile on Linkedin and Facebook and posted details of the live engineering vacancies on their job boards. With well established engineering groups already on both social media channels we hope our efforts will create interest amongst audiences that may well not be surfing traditional online job boards.

If you would like more information on how social media can help you with your recruitment strategies, why not get in touch?
